2024 Picks / DJ Rushton in Public
Two Playlists I Build Over the Course of the Year Get Some Additions
Today is Friday, March 8, 2024, and I have some “DJ Rushton” playlist updates.
My “2024 Picks” playlist on Spotify finally hit 10 songs. These are tracks I mostly discover through Spotify’s Release Radar.
This week, I added “Picturae” by Thomas Markusson, Arve Henriksen, and Helge Andreas Norbakken. I always like to hear everything Henriksen is doing with his processed trumpet. It’s a quiet, cold, and rainy day here, so it just fit.
And “Crepuscular Horizons” by Daniel Diaz. While Diaz produces a wide variety of music, this is a bit different with the piano and cello.
I should keep mentioning that the 2024 remix of Serpentskirt by Cocteau Twins is so different from the 1996 mix I know and love. Liz’s multi-tracked voices are really given a lot of room to breathe with this mix. It’s a new song.
DJ Rushton in Public 2024 hit 39 songs today.
“Saved by Zero” by The Fixx was playing in the company gym today. For being over 40 years old, it still has a lot of mystery happening in the guitar lines.
Chicane, Adrian Quesada, girl in red, The Avener, and The Weeknd were all heard while clothes shopping last weekend - mostly at Banana Republic, but some at JCrew.
“And She Was” by Talking Heads was heard at the grocery store. For a song that peaked at #54 in 1985, it sure has endured.
But Donald Fagen’s “New Frontier” did even worse in the charts, peaking at #70 in 1983. To me, it’s another indisputable classic that continues to age well.
